Who are the people that help drive One Auto API forward? In the latest instalment of our Meet The Team series, we are delighted to introduce Software Engineer, Robbie Denton.

Can you tell us about your background in the automotive (and/or other) industries?

My entire career has been in the tech space. I started an apprenticeship in IT support straight out of college. However, my true passion has always been software development, leading me to secure my first web development role in 2018. Since then, I’ve been able to cultivate a diverse skill set and recently joined the One Auto API team in June.

What do you consider to be your particular area of specialism?

As a full-stack developer, I enjoy working in all aspects of software development. However, if I had to choose one, it would have to be front-end development. I enjoy building engaging UI/UX websites/apps and seeing things all come together at the end.

What made you want to work in the world of automotive data?

I’ve always been fascinated by the intersection of technology and real-world applications. The world of automotive data offers a unique opportunity to harness cutting-edge technology to optimise and enhance how we interact with vehicles. Whether it’s improving safety, enhancing the driving experience, or making more informed decisions, automotive data holds the potential to revolutionise the industry.

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day varies according to the project’s requirements I’m currently engaged in. It may entail tasks such as developing infrastructure for new projects, incorporating additional features into existing products, addressing software bugs and discussing technical solutions with the team.

What excites you most about your job?

The thing that excites me the most about my job as a Software Engineer is the incredible freedom it offers. I love having the autonomy to explore innovative solutions and tackle complex problems with my colleagues. Working through challenges and creating elegant solutions keeps me passionate about my work every day.

Where does One Auto API add the most value for its clients?

We’ve dedicated considerable time and effort to develop a diverse array of services, and we’re continuously expanding our offerings. Our focus is on making these services user-friendly and ensuring they seamlessly complement each other. Alongside our commitment to providing a wide range of options, we leverage our deep industry knowledge to support clients effectively. And the best part is, we have even more services in the works, so there’s always something new and exciting on the horizon.

What are you looking forward to achieving in the next 12 months?

In the next 12 months, what I’m most excited about is taking on new software development projects and watching them come to fruition. As a software engineer, there’s nothing quite as satisfying as the process of creating something entirely new from the ground up.

What is the biggest challenge or opportunity that the motor industry is facing – and how can One Auto API make a difference to that?

And, finally, what technology innovation has had the biggest impact on your life?

The technology innovation that has had the most profound impact on my life is undoubtedly the internet. It’s a transformative force that has shaped both my personal and professional journey. In my personal life, the internet has become an indispensable tool for communication, information access, and entertainment. Professionally, the internet has been the foundation of my career. It has provided access to a vast array of resources, allowed me to stay updated on industry trends and provided me with a platform to work from.
